Free Plugin: Isivisi Audio’s SLURP

Good news for music producers and sound designers – Isivisi Audio has released SLURP, a free spatial rotation FM synth.

SLURP takes FM synthesis and flips it on its head with three rotating oscillators moving in 3D space.

At first, it might look intimidating, but once you dive in, it feels surprisingly approachable.

The interface is unique but intuitive, encouraging you to tweak and experiment even if you don’t know what quaternion oscillation means.

The free version includes a standalone app plus VST3 and CLAP formats. You get one voice of polyphony and classic oscillators like sine, saw, square, and phasor.

Each oscillator can be assigned to the X, Y, or Z axis, with controls for rotation, influence, intensity, and phase.

A colorful visualizer in the center shows you the composite rotation path in real time, which makes it much easier to understand what’s happening to the sound.

Despite the unusual design, you’ll find familiar tools like ADSR envelopes, macros, and modulation targets, along with a custom projection axis to change your listening angle.

The free version is more than capable for evolving leads, pads, and textured sounds, while the $28 paid upgrade unlocks 16 voices, noise and audio input oscillators, deep modulation, and lifetime updates.

That extra depth adds plenty for advanced sound design, but the free edition already feels like a powerful playground on its own.

Final thoughts: SLURP makes you think about synthesis differently without being overwhelming. It’s fresh, fun, and packed with creative potential.
